Can you hear me?

*tap* *tap* Is this thing on?

Apparently, Google took a dislike to my old blog, and it disappeared. Probably because I hadn’t posted in so long. This one is on my own website, so I shouldn’t have that problem again.

This is a fresh start. Let’s see if I have anything worthwhile to say!

Recently read some good books. A good book sticks with me and makes me want to read more by that author. A really good book keeps me up at night, turning pages. The kind of book that makes me late for work the next day, yawning. The first two are really good books.

The Fireman by Joe Hill is an epic worthy of Stephen King’s heir apparent. A sweeping story of good versus evil, which is King’s bailiwick. No happily ever-after, but ends with hope. Well worth the read.

Justin Cronin’s The Passage is another. Vampires, sort of, but not the vampires out there in the literary world today. These ones are evil and need destroyed. This is the first book in a trilogy, and I’m looking forward to reading the next one, The Twelve.

Another good series that I’m two books into is The Lorien Chronicles. It starts with I Am Number Four, which I read last week. This week I read the second book, The Power of Six. Strangely enough, I got interested in this series by watching the movie version of I Am Number Four. I usually don’t have much interest in reading a book after seeing the movie, but this was different.

For quite a while now, I’ve been into post-apocalyptic books. Something there speaks to me. Maybe I think the end of the world as we know it is nigh. Maybe I just like thinking about what I would do in those circumstances, and figuring out if I would be a survivor. Usually, the answer is yes.

How about you? If the world blew up today and everything we knew fell apart, would you have what it takes to survive? Would you be able to become the kind of person you would need to be, to make it through the new world you would find yourself in? What would you need to learn, to live in the new world?

Hmm…wasn’t planning to make this a deep philosophical blog. Guess this is where my mind is today.  What are your thoughts?

PS: This is not because of the recent election. My mind has been on this track for several years. Before you have to wonder, I did vote for Trump. Not because I think he’s great, but because I felt he was better than the other choice.

  1. Yes, I was curious. Congrats on your renewed efforts at writing a blog. I like that you shared some good books you have enjoyed. Sorry, not exactly my genres of choice, but I really need to read more of this type of material to broaden my horizons.
Now if the world was coming to an end, I’d probably curl up and let it end at this point in my life. It’s hard enough to get through the real world and I’m not willing to struggle through to survive to live in a horrible place. I have no appetite for eating garbage or living in a cave. Gimme an electric blanket and a microwave. That’s all the roughing it I could handle.

Welcome again to the blogosphere! Enjoyed your post and looking forward to many more!

    1. Hi, Audrey!
Right or wrong, I’ve always thought I could survive and THRIVE if some apocalyptic disaster wiped out our technology-based existence.
One of my current WiPs is actually based on a Central Character who has to go “off the radar” for personal reasons (mostly financial: he is being pursued by Moneylenders ……)
Far TOO many years ago, when I was active in Scouting, my favourite activities were Backwoods Survival: going out into the wilderness with a compass and a sharp knife, and surviving [building a shelter, starting a fire (NO matches!), catching your next meal and cooking it, foraging in nature for veg/other edibles … all good fun!]
Best of all, of course, was the knowledge that after the ‘adventure’ was over, you had the safety & security of a Home to go back to, and a family who loved you (even if they didn’t understand WHY you wanted to ‘survive’ in the wilderness … LOL
